At its December 2024 meeting, the ADC Board made the difficult decision to discontinue offering Blended ADC/AED Memberships in partnership with the Association for Episcopal Deacons (AED). This decision was made in consultation with AED and with the blessing of its Executive Director. 

The ADC board realizes that this change will be accompanied by some sadness for members who have really appreciated being Blended Members of AED and ADC, a mutually beneficial arrangement that started in 2008 and continued for sixteen years. 

Factors that contributed to this decision: 

  • AED has changed its membership categories and rates so the AED portion of a Blended Membership would now be $50 USD which translates to $70 CDN (or more) 
  • A 2025 Blended Membership would have been $120 CDN ($70 for AED and $50 for ADC) 
  • which represents a very large fee increase from the $75 CDN Blended memberships offered previously at ($25 for AED; $10 mailing costs & $40 for ADC)
  • A fluctuating and uncertain exchange rate on the US dollar might mean that ADC would need to subsidize the AED portion if the value of the CDN dollar drops further. 
  • AED is dealing with a new bank which doesn't accept Canadian cheques and so blended fees would need to be wired to their bank (a more complicated process)
  • AED will not be producing hard copies of its quarterly newsletter Diakoneo in 2025; all distribution will be via email. It will be shorter, publication probably closer to 4-8 pages, and formatted more like a newsletter

What hasn't changed, however, is ADC and AED's partnership as sister organizations who will continue to work together collaboratively to strengthen the diaconate and encourage the call of all believers to diakonia.
